The wonderful iPhone app Shazam records a clip of any song you’re listening to and then returns information about that song, also keeping a running list of all the songs you’ve identified. I love the app so much I bought the paid version just to support them, despite the fact that the free version met all my needs. I can’t say that about any other app. It’s super handy for discovering music while you’re listening to the radio, or out and about on the town. Or just for figuring out what that song-you-love-but-can’t-recall-the-name-to actually was afterall, should you have a goldfish memory like me.
Here are the songs I’ve identified using Shazam since the start of the year, presented in glorious iLike-embeddable-player-o-vision!
HOLY CHEESESTEAKS, BRUCE WILLIS IS IN THE LATEST GORILLAZ VIDEO! Embedding is not allowed, so go watch it here. Actually, the entire new Gorillaz album, Plastic Beach, comes out tomorrow, and is a great listen. Cameos by Snoop Dogg were a bit weird, but they actually fit.
And speaking of releases tomorrow, checkout Broken Bells. As if you haven’t already. Broken Bells is Danger Mouse plus James Mercer, best known for The Shins, and for being my favourite male singer. Well, at least tied with Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie / The Postal Service).
Listen to Broken Bell’s single, “The High Road” below, over and over and over again.
