I find myself with a lot of airline credit expiring this spring, racked up from last year’s travel nightmares. With a few days left to spend it all, I wonder, what are your favourite cities to spend a weekend in?
Booking travel is a lot like refinancing your mortgage. There is this impending cloud of stress hovering about as your fret over whether to buy now or wait and see if the rates drop. I wish there was a Farecast for mortgages, however.
New York City would be my first place to go. I'd go to San Francisco as well, as I've been hearing good things about it recently.If you have the miles you might consider London and just take a couple of extra days off from work. I've also been wanting to visit Chicago, so that would be great too. With all this thinking about travel, now I wanna go :)

Depends on what you want to do. Both NYC and Chicago would be good if you want to eat and drink and shop and visit fine museums, but are really cold now. DC can be fun, but is kind of crowded now.
London is fun. I've never really found fine dining there, but maybe I didn't know where to look. Fortunately, I enjoy pub food. The problem with London for a weekend is, you'd get jet lag whipsaw, no time to adjust before you'd have to come back. I can recommend a nice little hotel, if you go.
I've never been to Montreal, but it *seems* like it would be fun to visit. I'd get to use my extremely rusty high school French.
Speaking of museums, the best museum of history and technology in the United States is The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. It takes two days to do it right. http://www.thehenryford.org "Where did you spend your weekend?" "Dearborn, Michigan." "?!?" If you did that, do not stay in Dearborn, rent a car and stay in Ann Arbor (which can be fun in its own right).
If I were to do the US, I would go Alaska in the summer because it truly rugged and frontier. Plus, you get to see the ice flows fall which is really cool.
If I were to go back to Europe, I would go to either Berlin or Prague. Both are beautiful and are not your standards of London, Paris and Rome.
If I were to go back to the Middle East, Egypt is awesome. Crazy busy, dirty, loud, crowded and full of amazing people, history and some really cool pyramids. Plus, you get to ride a camel if you want to.
But you can always come by DC. We have great monuments, rocking places to Lindy and East Coast and a really cool new President. He will be in town on Tuesday.
